ETC. – Expérimentations et Théories Contemporaines
An initiative by UQAM art history students, ETC. – Expérimentations et Théories Contemporaines is an inter-university visual arts festival. The goal of the event is to provide a space for exploration and experimentation by emerging artists and theorists.
WHO?
The festival is open to all university students, from any institution or program.
WHEN?
The exhibition will be held from may 7th to may 9th at the POPOP gallery located in the Belgo building.
WHAT?
You are invited to pitch works (maximum 3 per artist) that respond to the theme “Ex-position.”
Ex: Prefix, from the Latin ex, out of, which, placed before a name with a hyphen, serves to designate a function, a previous state which has ceased to be: ex-minister, ex-husband. (Larousse)
Position: Place where a thing or person is placed. Synonyms: location, situation. (CNRTL)
“Ex-position”: A place where a thing, person, or state was. A previous situation or location. A position that is transformed following a movement. (Etymological Dictionary of False Reality)
Artists are invited to think about their current situation (geographic, political, artistic, physical, social, ideological) and how this relates to their ex-position.
Moving from one position to another is an act that leaves a trace. Consider the road travelled. The afterglow of the metamorphosis. The journey. All this, through an introspective and retrospective lens. Ex-position encourages a free reflection on the past, on movement, on self-affirmation, on evolution, on progress or the lack thereof. Ex-position plays with language.
Keywords: Ex-disposition – ex-place – ex-location – ex-point – ex-attitude – ex-pose – ex-stance – ex-site – ex-role – ex-profession – ex-rank – ex-situation – ex-condition – ex-state – ex-worldview – ex-ideas – ex-opinion – ex-point of view.
